Latin America is facing a shifting landscape that demands a new kind of business leadership and stronger corporate governance, aligned with global trends to ensure business sustainability and effectively respond to emerging risks. In this context, understanding how companies are adapting, which best practices are emerging, and what trends are shaping the region is essential.
To address these questions and strengthen corporate governance in the region, BH Compliance held the webinar “360 Vision: Corporate Governance Trends in LATAM,” featuring a distinguished panel: Catalina Cabello, board director at Grupo de Empresas Navieras S.A., Besalco S.A., and FAVIMA SpA; León Kraig, independent board advisor; and Gabriel Hasson, expert in corporate governance and stewardship. The discussion was moderated by our CEO, Susana Sierra.
The webinar explored corporate governance trends, the challenges faced by family-owned businesses, the new leadership styles required to navigate today’s environment, and the governance of core values.
Susana Sierra opened the session with an invitation to reflect on the importance of acting with conviction and principles, beyond mere legal compliance. In a context where investors, regulators, and stakeholders increasingly assess the integrity and sustainability of organizations, she emphasized that it is no longer enough to simply comply with the law—companies must show genuine commitment to best practices in order to access financing and build trust.
Among the corporate governance trends highlighted by the panelists were the growing pressure from investors to demonstrate effective governance; the need for board independence and diversity to objectively address the multiple risks companies face; the importance of demonstrating long-term and sustainable value; increased transparency and accountability to all stakeholders—not just shareholders; greater attention to the external environment; new capabilities required of board members, such as technological expertise and resilience; and a deeper understanding of the organization’s role in society beyond its business operations.
The webinar was an enriching opportunity to gain diverse perspectives, experiences, and approaches to the current challenges of corporate governance in Latin America. Through concrete examples and best practices, the panelists shared valuable insights to help move toward stronger, more sustainable management models aligned with new global standards.
